Did you know your brain uses 25% of your daily energy intake?
Now and then, your brain needs a break. It’s constantly working to keep you alive and sometimes, it can feel like the hardware is about to short-circuit.
Being mentally overwhelmed can cause headaches, illness, shortness of breath, stress responses, and anxiety.
Taking care of your mental health is your first defense against sickness, fatigue, and low energy.
Below, I list five simple actions you can take to feel better immediately.
I hope they help you!
1. Close your eyes.
Closing your eyes reduces your outside stimuli by 80%! This means you can more easily connect with your inner wisdom, no matter what is going on around you.
Most of our stress comes from responding to the environment, people, and time.
Your brain has built-in programs it likes to run based on what you’re looking at.
When you close your eyes, you can take back your power instantly by going within and hearing what you need to know.
2. Smell something pleasant.
A pleasant smell releases endorphins and brings you back to the present moment, where all wisdom lives. Plus, it can uplift your mood, especially if the smell is connected to a positive memory or experience.
We rarely stop to enjoy things. Take the time to savor the smell and notice what it does to your chemistry and thoughts.
A pleasant smell can give you new ideas, allow answers to flow, and improve your outlook.
3. Use a mudra.
A mudra is a specific hand or body gesture used to increase the flow of energy in your body.
There are lots of mudras to help with different aspects of life from finances to self-love to divine connection. Find your favorites and use them throughout the day!
A mudra forces you to slow down and concentrate on the body. Notice what muscles and tendons are engaged as you try your favorites.
4. Stretch.
The great thing about stretching? It’s free!
Stretching releases stuck energy, helps you relax, and gets your circulation going.
A good stretch also places attention back on the body and gets you out of your head so you can hear your inner wisdom with more clarity.
Stretching increases strength, agility, and balance. It helps your sleep, digestion, and stress levels.
5. Scream or cry!
Your nervous system needs a release and reset now and then, especially if you are carrying a lot of responsibilities. We’ve been conditioned not to cry or get angry, but these energies are a part of life, and they deserve your attention.
Crying feels so good once you allow yourself to let it go. It tells our nervous system we’re safe again and brings our heart and brain back in coherence with each other.
Screaming releases stuck energy and connects you to your pelvic bowl — your greatest source of power and creativity.
