My worst fear happened.
After 14 months of work and countless rounds of edits, I was finally ready to hit ‘Publish Your Paperback Book’ on Kindle Direct Publishing.
I said a prayer and connected to my body. This was the moment I had been working for. I was almost at the finish line.
I hit the button and…an enormous red ERROR message flashes at the top and bottom of the screen.
WHAT? NOOOOOO!!!!!
“Please see the above errors and correct them before continuing,” I read in a panic.
What errors? There are no obvious errors on the form. I’m baffled.
After a few minutes of research on Google, I concluded that something with the ISBN (International Standard Book Number) profile and Amazon’s info did not match.
NOOOOOOOOO!!
I go to the ISBN registry and notice the errors. Crap! This means I have to wait because the system can take up to 24 hours to process changes. That meant my chosen release date was out of range in Amazon’s eyes and I would have to change it.
Again, NOOOOOOOOOOO!
As a spiritual coach who wrote a spiritual book, I knew this was when I had to practice what I preach (and what I truly believe): I had to trust what was happening and surrender to the process.
I decided with conviction that this delay was in my favor. I decided to move forward and let go of any self-judgment or self-attack. I reminded myself that this is a huge learning curve and I am doing it solo. I chose to be my own cheerleader and keep going.
Something in my body said to move the release date one week. I did it without argument and spent the next four days dealing with a tech loop that finally ended early on a Sunday morning after talking to Amazon’s stellar support staff.
My book was finally submitted and in the queue to be approved. Yay!
With another week to prepare, I can now do a whole bunch of promotion and marketing tasks that I wouldn’t have had time for with the original date.
This “delay” reinforced what I teach and what I live each day: that we are always taken care of if we choose to see it that way.
Now, I have way more time to put some sparkle on my marketing and promotion efforts!
Even during my darkest moments with the project, I knew I would reach the end.
I don’t mind the scrapes because I’ve learned SO much. This is knowledge I can use to grow my business, create more products and services, and expand my coaching client base.
I’m so happy I had to move my book release date. It’s been one of the best gifts of this experience.
